W. Timothy Coombs (PhD, Public Affairs and Issues Management, Purdue University) is a professor in the Nicholson School of Communication at the University of Central Florida. His books include Applied Crisis Communication and Crisis Management: Cases and Exercises, Code Red in the Boardroom,and, with Sherry Holladay, Managing Corporate Social Responsibility, PR Strategy and Application, and The Handbook of Crisis Communication. His crisis communication research was awarded the 2002 Jackson, Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America. Dr. Coombs has published more than 40 research articles, most focusing on crisis communication, as well as more than 30 book chapters on the subject. He has worked with consulting firms in the U.S. and Europe on ways to improve crisis communication efforts for their clients, and has been invited by governments and businesses around the world to present his ideas and insights into crisis communication.

My favorite crisis management reference so far

In the past six months I've read a few books on crisis management and this is my favorite. Coombs put together a concise book that is well organized, easy to read, and brimming with useful information. He used the three-phase (pre-crisis, crisis, post-crisis) model as a foundation after comparing it with other more robust models.

Because this was published recently (2012), the examples were current and memorable. As much as I dig the Tylenol/cyanide case study, it's nice to learn from events that have happened in the past few years.

I originally purchased this as a required text for graduate school but have used it as much, if not more, at work in building a crisis management plan from scratch. For someone who needs a grip on the basics, this is an appropriate tool. For a person with extensive crisis management experience, it may fall short of expectations.

This book was a great book for information on crisis management which I had to do a presentation on. It was neatly organized and super understandable. It was easy to read not like some text books! I think this would be a great book for teaching students!!

About the Author
Lynne Schafer Gross is presently a Professor in the Department of Radio-TV-Film at California State University, Fullerton. She has written ten other textbooks and hundreds of magazine articles. In 1999 she was the recipient of the Frank Stanton Award for Distinguished Contribution to Electronic Media Education and in 1997 she received the Distinguished Education Service Award from the Broadcast Education Association. She is a past governor of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and has also chaired that organization’s Library Committee and Student Activities Committee. As Past President of the Broadcast Education Association she increased membership 24% and funding 59%. Professionally, she was Director of Programming for Valley Cable TV and the producer of numerous radio and TV programs for public, commercial, and cable outlets. Her teaching and consulting have taken her to many countries including Malaysia, Swaziland, Estonia, Australia, Guyana, and Russia. Her doctorate is from UCLA.

Juli Alexander does it again...

When I found out that Juli Alexander had written another book AND it was free on my kindle yesterday, I was psyched. I have read some of her other books, (Stirring Up Trouble, My life as the ugly stepsister, and the Karma beat.)and let me say this, they were all pretty awesome. Be forewarned, these are books that are targeted for pre to early teens. Although I'm a sophmore in High school and I still think they're pretty awesome. These books are great for a light read, but I'm digressing AGAIN. I seem to be doing that an awful lot recently. So here's my breakdown of the book.
THE PREMISE
Amanda's aunt is a secret agent and she recruits Amanda to help her bust a teenage hacker. Her aunt is also working a case with her partner who she supposedly hates.
THE PROS
1. The humor. I love how Christie and Nic were always arguing. They had a great love/hate relationship.
2. Amanda's character. I love how she was always trying to figure everything out from her aunt and Nic to the case to how she felt about Will.
3. Spies. Really who doesn't love spies. I'm beng serious, who doesn't like spies? I'd like to know why.
4. The lack of art talent. Non-Artists must band together.
5. The ending. I love sweet endings.
THE CONS
1. Kind of an obvious ending, but hey it was sweet.
OVERALL
There was an ending that could be open to a sequel, but it all depends on whether the author choses to take that route. I would definitly read the sequel. So in all it was a light quick read with a fun adventure and a sweet romance for younger readers. Definitly not a let down from her other books.

Maybe for young teens

I read a ton of Young Adult fiction so while I may not be the intended audience, I do feel qualified to review it. My main problem with the book is the writing style. It's very immature and undeveloped. I don't know if the author was trying too hard to write for a younger teen group or what but it's very difficult to read. I felt it was an amateurish attempt. Effective teen authors don't dumb down their books - they write complicated, well-written stories that teens (and adults) can enjoy. This book just fell short for me.

The story was cute and love that both main characters shared a passion for soccer because I love it myself.

Well the story is about fifteen year old Amanda who goes to visit her "boring" ain't Christie but finds out she's actually a spy and wants Amanda to be one too. Amanda's first mission is to spy on Will a supposed computer hacker who may cause danger to the US. But her aunt fails to mention he is a hottie and Amanda just may be falling for him.

Thought the ending would have been better but definitely something I didn't suspect and thought it was pretty funny.overall good book(:

About the Author
Meredith J. Marsh received her bachelor’s degree in geography from Calvin College in 1999, her Master’s Degree in geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2003, and her Ph.D. (also in geography) from UCSB in 2009. Meredith has worked as a Reader for the APHG exam in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014, and she is currently an associate professor of geography at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Peter S. Alagona is an assistant professor of history and environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He holds an M.A. degree in geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has also held academic positions at both Harvard and Stanford universities.

Great for studying

Honestly, how well these flash cards work for you depends on what kind of learner you are. I waited until 2 days before the test to study and didn't have time look at my review book, and I cram-studied these cards and still made a 5 (but don't do that). They have all of the concepts and vocabulary that you need to make a 5 on the test; however, keep in mind that the cards only contain basic information and definitions, so you need to know them a little more in depth. That's why, if you buy these cards, you should also buy a review book or two to supplement it. When I took the test last year, most of the kids bought multiple APHG review books because each one somehow contains different information or ideas (but it really doesn't matter because all of the are good). I bought these cards with the Barron's book, but they literally cover the same information; the book is just a lot more extended and takes more time to read. It would be better to choose these flash cards with a different book so you have more variety and more information.
The flash cards also contain a bunch of vocab that is unnecessary, so don't focus too much on minor terms. If you are short in time, just be able to recognize them; many of the terms don't show up on the test.
Since they're more expensive than some review books, many people just buy books and they do equally as well on the test. However, flash cards are an awesome study habit, in general, so I recommend you use these, especially if you're under a time crunch.

While the note-cards themselves tend to be in good condition, the contents of them proved to be useless. I took AP Human Geo. last year and got a 5, but these note cards had minimal usage. Most of the concepts are just thrown in to increase he card count and several definitions are incorrect. Don't buy these; they're a waste of crucial time.

These are great!

These were a huge help to my daughter. She was making C's on tests in her AP Human Geography class and after the first test studying with these, she made a 95%. They're great at helping kids, especially those new to AP courses, organize their studying. I'll never let her tackle another AP class without them.

Book is great, seller not great

This book is out of print. Very difficult to find. Excellent item. As such, I had to pay 7 times as much as its worth. Hopefully, you'll be able to find it from someone who isn't a scalper.
