A good, quick read!

This biography of Anne Boleyn is short and quite accurate. There are a ton of illustrations in the book that really contribute to the overall effect. I life the fact that the author didn't overly sypathize with Mistress Anne but didn't try to persecute her either.
A great book for someone who wants to learn more about history but doesn't have time to delve into a 500 page book that is full of dry, useless information.

Norah Loft's Anne Boleyn

Norah Lofts is a historical novelist of the first water- she did her best work in the forties and fifties and has a small but devoted following ( see Goodreads, or Flork or Allreaders)
Most of her ouevre is fiction, featuring ordinary people as well as royalty, but always meticulously researched and devoid of the purple prose and fervid imagined sexual detail of later writers. However she also had a respectable output of non fiction.
'Anne Boleyn', like 'Women in the New Testament' or any of her other non-fiction is completely readable , but intelligently researched and structured. Always a pleasure Norah Lofts, always.
One aspect of note in Norah Lofts -fiction or non fiction- is that once you have read her version of some historical figure, it is hard to accept anyone else's as being quite as real . A bit like Mary Renault's version of Alexander Great.

A fond memory....

I just got this book again because this is the book I checked out from the library when I was 12 which started my lifelong enchantment, fascination and passion for Anne....and for english history. It's an easy, but very informative read. And there are many gorgeous illustrations, and some unusual ones as well.

Lofts always has a wonderful sense of history and her writing is intuitive and deeper than most.

The Best Book on Recommender Systems

For a technical book, the writing is surprisingly clear and the content is well-organized. This book has given me enough insight to build two sophisticated recommendation engines from scratch. I like that it does not get into specific languages and frameworks. It goes deep into the essential algorithms and mathematics that power recommendation engines and elucidates many concepts that are very hard to grasp by reading other sources. It gives you enough information to know what to look for when using a third party tool or framework. This is essential reading for anyone who wants to build a custom recommendation engine and actually understand how it works.

Almost every major topic is studied in detail. Matrix factorization material in the book
is lovely. The book can be helpful to both newcomers and advanced readers.

It's an excellent book which explains why of things. What could make it even better are some numerical examples and some sample R code. Also, Kindle version has TOC(table-of-contents) not hyperlinked makes it cumbersome to navigate. Regardless, it's both a solid text & reference

Nice taste but still want more, Please.

I enjoyed this short story as a companion to The Origin series but I am still waiting for the next book in the series to released. I mean the story on its own was rather sweet and touching but I'm not sure how it fits in the whole scheme of the The Origin series plot except that the main character Luke Sullivan was touched or infected by Daniel Johnson, who is the main character from The Origin. Which if you haven't read the Origin in a while or may have forgot the twist in the end where Daniel realizes he has all these superpowers and seems to be invincible, now he can also infect or awaken powers in certain people.

So that is where this short story start us off with a random stranger on a train trying to jack some blind woman's cell phone. The guy, Luke, the reader is never told but it is implied that he has at one point in his life, must have been in contact with Daniel in order to have picked up the power to heal people physically, because he is shown to be able to make the blind woman see, at least momentarily when touching her. There begins the cute love story that the author narrates in where the character Luke comes into his own in figuring out who he is and what he is now that he begins realizes this ability that he didn't have before; and now that he has this healing touch what is he, a criminal, to do with it?

Overall like this short story but I'm still anxiously awaiting the sequel The Forsaken which is supposed to be out in 2013, so here's hoping it comes out really really soon and perhaps the author will tie in more stories like Luke's and other characters, who had their lives changed for the better thanks to Daniel's touch integrated into the next book.

Though a stretch realistic-wise, it's forgiving if you like a short sweet story. I found its unconventional charm refreshing, though, and the story's best aspect. DO NOT read; however, if you're looking for a realistic story, or a lot of action.

Badly written - paged through it - not interested. Sorry I wasted money buying this when Joost needs all the support he can get. I should've donated to Tinus Linee instead. Bad decision

Tired of the headlines

Knowing the couple personally I am not shocked nor surprised with the content of this book. I do however get the impression that the author wanted the lime light more than his subject. I would recommend only if you are bored and have nothing else available to read. The book is riddled with spelling mistakes, punctuation and grammar. Waste of time.
