The chapters are based on papers presented at the Third International Con­ ference on Treatment of Addictive Behaviors, which was held at North Berwick, Scotland, in August of 1984. The conference was organized around an integrative model of stages and processes of change that has been useful in organizing new knowledge about how to intervene with addictive behaviors. This model is set forth by its authors, Jim Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente, in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, Fred Kanfer ex­ pounds his own model of self-regulation, which overlaps nicely with the Prochaska-DiClemente framework and provides a behavioral-theoretical context.

This isn't the same book I already had. I wanted the same book for a gift to someone and the poems in this book are different from the poems in my book.

Poets, Be Aware!

My name is Karen Ter-Sarkisian. My poet SOLITUDE is on the first page of MY copy of the book. After receiving The Colors of Life I was proud for a while. I thought since my poem was on the very first page, it was the best, or one of the best poems in the collection. Until I found out the truth: every poet has his or her poem on the first page of their copy(s). This is a trick: making you to believe that you are the best in order to make you send more poems, spend more money. Vanity Publication-that how it is called. To pay in order to be published. Each participant poet must pay $49.99 for their copy which regularly would be no more than $15 retail price. Vanity publications don't have any value for our career as poets. Now, if someone is willing to pay couple of dollars (no more than that) to purchase this book, go ahead, there are some really good poems, but also really bad ones as well.

Great compliation!

I don't read much poetry, but someone very close to me wrote a wonderful poem that happened to end up in this book. So of course, I automatically love it! But, I also found many other interesting, and varied, poems while browsing through the rest of it. It is a fun collection written by a wide range of people - some professional writers, others who just write on the side. All in all, a charming book, and I love it! I'm glad they printed this.

About the Author
Jeffrey Allan Johnson is associate professor of history at Villanova University. His current research interests include chemists and chemical technology during the First World War and German chemists and the chemical industry from the 1860s to the 1930s.

Since 2005, Raymond G. Stokes has held the Chair of Business History at the University of Glasgow, where he also serves as Director of the Centre for Business History in Scotland. His book The Business of Waste: Great Britain and Germany, 1945 to the Present (with co-authors Roman Koster and Stephen Sambrook) was published by Cambridge University Press in 2013.

This is a very well researched and detailed history of the German chemical company "Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik" (BASF) founded in the 1860s. The book discusses the development of the company chronologically.
Initially, coaltar products(aniline) were the company's business. After
William Perkin's discovery of mauve, an important dye derived from aniline, BASF developed and manufactured many synthetic dyes : indigo,
fuchsin,alizarin and many others. The company pioneered in basic research
and collaborated with universities. They also believed in vertical integration: manufacturing many of the materials that went into dye synthesis : soda,sulfuric acid,and chlorine were some of these.
After Fritz Haber's demonstration of the direct synthesis of ammonia ,BASF
acquired the rights to the process , and their chemist Carl Bosch led a team that developed large-scale ammonia plants.
The book discusses the formation of IG Farben the cartel of which BASF was part, and its involvement in production of synthetic gasoline, rubber
and other materials for NAZI germany.
There are many other matters discussed: particularly business arrangements, patents, pollution issues, and the involvement of some managers of IG Farben in war crimes.
As a chemist, I wished for some more specific details on the chemistry involved. There are no chemical formulas in the book, and some of the
descriptions of chemistry sound strange.
The references given are extremely extensive, and imply access to many internal BASF documents, as well as personal diaries.
This book is an essential reference for anyone trying to understand
the military/industrial/political developments in Germany 1900-present.
